A Pretty Patriotic Picnic

Oh summer holidays… Memorial Day has sadly come and gone, and somehow the Fourth of July is quickly upon us. Where did the time go?! I don’t know about you but I always feel like this marks the middle of summer, so that’s it. We are halfway through…. hope you are making the most out of your summer fun! I digress, summer holidays are awesome. How wonderful is it to day drink with friends and family, dine alfresco, and take in some parades and fireworks?! I know these are some of my favorite times of the year!

As a woman who carries the hosting gene, I love to throw a party! Its just how I was built. But this time of year always throws me for a loop. Patriotism is running rampant, and I feel it. I do. But, the color scheme and flag situation isn’t really my jam. I feel some pangs of guilt if I don’t comply, so, I adapt…Below you’ll find out how I throw a pretty Patriotic Picnic.

For me (a jewel tone loving, color craving gypsy spirit) true reds and those bright cobalt blues just make me crazy! I feel like they are literally some of the only colors that pose a challenge.. I could probably just suck it up, but I don’t want the party decor to completely clash with my normal decor… (OCD is a real thing). Rather, for these holidays I lean to deep dark navys and subtle light-chambrayesque blues paired with a richer raspberry red and some scant light pinks. These colors seamlessly blend with any decor, especially when strategically placed among your existing items.

Example: I have green palm pillows on my porch, so I wouldn’t want to do any red pillows or throws to avoid a Christmas-in-July feeling, but blues mix in beautifully. I still use some small red and pink accents elsewhere, but I would probably the blues take center stage.

Also, instead of being super flag centric, I love to mix and match prints all day every day, so I keep it cute and casual and mix SO MANY patterns. You can see a bit of that in our barbecue invitations. Look how cute these invitations work with some of the ideas below from our favorite stores and bloggers!
